National Center for Civil and Human Rights | Graphic Designer $45K to $50K

The National Center for Civil and Human Rights (The Center) is an engaging cultural center located in downtown Atlanta, Georgia, which connects the American Civil Rights Movement to today’s ongoing struggle for human rights. We are currently seeking an experienced graphic designer to support The Center’s various marketing, communications, and branding strategies, both internally and externally. This position provides the opportunity for a hybrid work schedule with the opportunity to work from home 2-3 days per week.
Role Summary
The graphic designer will work collaboratively across the organization to translate ideas and requirements into visual design. To be successful in this role, one must have a strong understanding of graphic design requirements and concepts, have the ability to think creatively, and communicate well with others. This individual plays a key role in shaping the visual aspects of The Center’s web and social media presence, marketing collateral, and exhibitions.
Reports To: Director of Marketing & Communications
Essential Duties and Responsibilities
Marketing and Branding Design
• Conceptualize visuals based on requirements
• Lead/Participate in creative brainstorming sessions
• Develop illustrations, logos and other designs using software or by hand
• Testing graphics across various media
• Create unified and branded esthetic that reflects the exhibition subject(s) and Center standards
• Art directing photography, videography, illustrations, and other designers
• Contribute to team efforts by accomplishing tasks as needed
• Review final layouts and suggesting improvements when necessary
• Communicate with internal and external clients about layout and design
• Management of Design Files
• Oversee production, printing, and installation process
• Travel to meetings and site visits as required per project
• Attend appropriate project meetings and manage timelines
• Other duties as assigned
Exhibition Design
• Under direction and supervision of Director of Exhibitions, collaborate with Director of Exhibitions and curatorial team to create exhibition
vision
• Confer with administrative, curatorial, and exhibit staff members to determine theme, content, and informational purpose
• Visit exhibition site during planning and setup phase
• Research and development of concepts
• Participate in brainstorming and ideation
• Oversee production and installation of exhibits with Director of Exhibitions
• Communicate with printers, mount makers, and fabricators to seamlessly integrate design components for installations
• Develop models, production drawings, and renderings for review, feedback, and consultation
• Create unified and branded esthetic that reflects the exhibition subject(s) and Center standards
• Ensure final exhibit conforms to specifications
• Management of exhibition design files
Skills Experience
• Five (5) or more years’ professional experience in graphic design work with demonstrated success
• Bachelor’s degree in graphic design, visual art, digital arts, or related field
• Previous experience in a nonprofit public service environment preferred
• Previous experience in museum, arts institution, and/or human rights institution a plus
• Operates within anti-racist frameworks when approaching tasks, community, and colleagues
• Strong interpersonal, collaboration and communication skills
• Strong writing and editing skills with acute attention to detail is a must
• Must have a positive attitude toward the work and working collaboratively with others
• Highly organized; strong project management ability
• Problem solving skills
• Proficiency with relevant digital design tools, preferably Adobe Pro, WordPress, Canva, PowerPoint, etc.
• Ability to exercise independent judgment and reasoning skills
• Capable of managing multiple priorities
• Ability to work a variable schedule based upon the needs of The Center, which may include occasional nights and weekends
