Christopher Scott

AAGD Core Member and helpful creative behind the scenes at AAGD

Tell us about you?

That’s a pretty loaded question. I feel like I’m one person in theory mixed with another in action. I’ve always wanted to encompass a lot of different things and find balance in chaos, handling chaos so to speak. I’m a person trying to center myself on happiness. Creation and manifestation happens to be happiness to me, so here I am a graphic designer looking to manifest ideas. I’m also a big goofball.

What are some of your favorite tools or applications you use? Or can’t do without?

Illustrator and photoshop are all time favorites for sure but as I grow and make use of them I very much enjoy InDesign (my favorite for layouts), XD is nice and simple, and I love the capabilities of After Effects and really want become masterful with the program, it’s just so very tedious and strenuous(for my pc) to operate. I have also been training with AI tools such as MidJourney and Scenario and have come to enjoy understanding how to operate and utilize AI production. The ability to learn is my greatest tool, with the added grace of the universe that picks up any of my slack.

What type of work do you enjoy most?

Conceptualizing art direction. Really I enjoy seeing ideas come to fruition. Manifestation. Shedding light on a fantastical thought has always been my desire. I would like to grow as an effective communicator and overall into being a guy with answers. Quantifiable knowledge is a superpower of ours.

What advice do you have for younger or less experienced Black/AA designers?

My advice for all who want to get somewhere is to continuously take them steps. Those steps against all doubt especially internally to handle them external ones. Understand your flaws and be open to learning and then be confident enough to practice that knowledge. In the spirit of my cousin Leon, don’t be afraid to let that thang go.

What would you say is the best way to take advantage of the AAGD network?

Being a part of it/learning to do the networking. Being a student to the game.

How do you deal with creative block?

Go ahead and get those shit ideas out. Go ahead and fail until I get that swing back. Essentially that amongst other things.

What advice would you give to someone who is interested in what you do?

Ah damn, more competition. Learn how to layout documents. That skill is a perceived weakness of mine and happens to be one of the greatest strengths a designer can have. How to structure/visually balance and efficiently produce/reproduce. That and learning to love file management. Those two things will get you paid for the rest of your life. And then when it comes to creativity don’t be afraid to express yourself fully, the good and bad, but be humble enough to continue learning. Don’t stop yourself from doing the work that is learning. And have fun.

If you had a message on your wrist, what would it be?

I’m forever changing but a personal motto of mine is “Look Good, Feel Good, BE Good.”

..and then there’s the spasmatic mind of mine that gets motivated from pure energetic hype and so I write..

Lets get this s***, lets get this s***, lets get this s***, lets hmm… topofthemorningtopofthemorningtopofthemorningtopofthemorning topofthemorning topofthemorning topofthemorning
