Dave McClinton, July 2022 Spotlight
This month’s Spotlight is on AAGD Member Dave McClinton.
Tell us about you…
A designer and artist based in Austin.
What are some of your favorite tools or applications you use? Or can’t do without?
Photoshop, InDesign, and Illustrator.
What type of work do you enjoy most?
Brand development and logo design.
Which project left the biggest impact on you as a designer/creative?
Honestly, it’s always the last one. No matter how much technology pushes the design field along, communication will continue to drive the good ideas. Every new project reminds me of that.
What advice do you have for younger or less experienced Black/AA designers?
Read articles on design, color, and font trends. Seek out design writing and criticism that helps to clarify whether the discussed projects communicate properly. And never forget that education never stops.
What would you say is the best way to take advantage of the AAGD network?
Participate by posting your own work. Ask questions and discuss the work that other designers post. Seek out projects and partnerships that will elevate your experience and design skills.
How do you deal with creative block?
Consult the design brief and address the goals of the project and never forget that the design is for an audience that you have (hopefully) discussed with the client.
If you had a message on your wrist, what would it be?
Enjoy yourself, it’s later than you think.
